Target intervention

Targeted Intervention (TI) is a specific set of intervention in AIDS Control Programme. All interventions have targets, which do not necessarily make them targeted intervention. TI specifically refers to interventions that are working with high-risk behaviour groups.

Purpose of Target interventions:

  • Provide the services that target populations need to practice safe behaviors that reduce transmission of HIV.
  • For the target populations to access and utilize these services it is essential that:-
    1. There is an enabling environment for removing the obstacles for safer behaviors and proactively supports practice of safer behaviors (Enabling Environment).
    2. The individuals in the target populations and the community of target population as a whole are empowered to decide for themselves and are able to lobby and advocate for what they need (Community Mobilisatio)
