CAPACS has been funding for 15 NGOs to interrupt HIV transmission among highly vulnerable populations. Certain populations are at greater risk of acquiring and transmitting HIV infection due to more frequent exposure to HIV. The people those who are at high risk are commercial sex workers, intravenous drug users, porters, truckers, men having sex with men, eunuchs and street children. In Chennai, 3 interventions for CSWs, 2 interventions for IDUs, 1 intervention for MSM, 1 intervention for St. Children, 1 intervention for film industry people, 1 intervention for truckers, 1 intervention for porters, 1 interventions for Eunuchs, 2 intervention for slum population and 2 intervention for auto drivers. The multi-prolonged strategies of TI are behavior change and communication one to one, counseling, treatment and referral services for STD, condoms promotion, peer education among core groups and bridge population. Tn order to cater the needs to avoiding stigma and discrimination for the people living with HIV / AIDS. CAPACS is supporting two positive networks to run drop-in-centres and one community care center Peer education system is being strengthened.
Objectives:
- Identify individuals with high risk establishing rapport with them and to ensure the reduction of growth of HIV infection.
- To ensure that the knowledge, skills and services that are necessary for detection and treatment of STD infection are available for the high-risk behavior groups.
- In an environment that is empowering, the above situation leads the community to promptly access STD services in the event of STD infection.
- To ensure that the knowledge, skills and services that are necessary for accessing and using condoms in penetrative sexual acts are available for the high risk groups.
- In an environment that is empowering, the above situation leads the community to use condoms in penetrative sexual acts
- To support and facilitate changes in the environment that enables the community to practice safer behaviors. These changes need to become policies and get implemented at state, district and local levels.
- To support and facilitate changes in the community so that they are empowered to articulate their issues and develop their own solutions or advocate for the needed solutions.
- Behavior change communication is a cross cutting issue that provides communication that is aimed at achieving the objectives of the above four components.
- Establishing service linkages like VCTC, PPTCT, ART and CD4 to the needy community.
