A convention for Peer Educators of School AIDS Education Programme from Chennai Corporation Schools was held at Hotel Residency Towers on the 6th of March 2007. 130 Peer educators from 65 schools, 65 teachers took part in the convention along with the part time counselors. Worshipful Mayor Mr. Maa. Subramaniam, Mr. Rajesh Lakhoni IAS, commissioner Corporation of Chennai, Dr. K. Manivasan IAS, PD CAPACS, Ms. Kakarla Usha IAS, Joint Commissioner Corporation of Chennai and Dr. Devashis Dutta PO- UNICEF Chennai graced the inauguration. The peer educators concept promoted by CAPACS as a part of HIV/AIDS awareness and life skill education in schools was turning out to be a successful one and was bearing more fruits than expected, according to the various speakers at the Peer Educators Convention. Worshipful Mayor Mr. Maa. Subramaniam distributed the JRRC badges to the students and interacted with them.
