Blood
Donor are of three types
Voluntary
Donors: These donors donate blood without expecting any
monitory or non-monitory benefits. They donate blood mostly on
humanitarian grounds. The development of Blood Transfusion Services
should base on voluntary and non-remunerated blood transfusion
Replacement
Donors: Usually these donors may be the relatives or
friends of the patient, who donate blood as replacement for units
issued from blood bank.
Professional
Donors: Remunerated based blood donation is done by blood
sellers, who conceal the facts about their health and diseases
that they may carry. They may be potential carriers of disease
like AIDS, syphilis, Hepatitis etc. It is not safe blood and could
be hazardous to the recipient. It should not be encouraged and
should be stopped.
Selection
of Blood Donors:
In order to protect the donor as well as the recipient, each blood
donor must be screened prior to each blood donation by Medical
History and Physical examination followed by laboratory testing.
