Benefits of Voluntary Counseling and Testing

Voluntary counseling and testing is now seen as a key entry point for a range of interventions in HIV prevention and care. There are individual benefits that stem from knowing one’s HIV status and there are huge potential benefits for the society. It is also observed that Voluntary Counseling and Testing helps people to cope with their HIV infection, to get access to care and to plan for their future. Some of the benefits of voluntary counseling and testing are listed below:

Prevention of HIV related illness

Better ability to cope with HIV related anxiety
Motivation to initiate or maintain safer sexual practices
