TNSACS in collaboration with CAPACS has organized a grand function on 1st October 2006 inviting Shri.Surjit Singh Barnala, His Excellency the Governor of Tamilnadu as Chief Guest. He addressed the gathering and released compendium on Blood Safety. He also distributed awards to Best Medical Officers, Best Blood Banks and Blood donation camp organizers identified through out the state.

The Secretary for Health, Govt. of Tamilnadu was also present in the function and he released RRC Blood Donation Calendar. Project Director, TNSACS and CAPACS addressed the gathering on the occasion.

Govt. Blood Banks organized week long Blood Donation Camps (1st week of October ’06) around Chennai and conducted 17 camps in which 996 units of blood has been collected from voluntary donors.

In order to create awareness and to motivate public about voluntary blood donation Chennai Corporation AIDS Prevention and Control Society (CAPACS) with support of partner NGOs has organized stalls at various prime places in Chennai city on 1st October and distributed pamphlets carrying messages on blood donation.

Training has been conducted by CAPACS for Blood Bank Medical Officers, Staff Nurses and Laboratory Technicians on ‘Blood Safety’ at Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R.Medical University, Dept. of Transfusion Medicine from 1st Oct. to 8th November’06. 9 Medical Officers, 14 staff nurses and 28 laboratory Technicians have been trained in the 1st batch of the training program.
